Fun BBQ outing by the Huron River. We are savoring the few warm weekends left with good food and great company while enjoying the outdoors. 1st Row, L-R: Mike, Bingjia, Luisa and Connor
2nd Row, L-R: Rohini, Aishwarya and Erika We are delighted to have Mike Mayer join as a new incoming graduate PhD student in our group. Welcome Mike!
We have immediate openings for a PhD and a postdoc position in our group; PhD position is pertinent to performing modeling and experiments for solar hydrogen production via water splitting and one postdoc position in the space of high-temperature materials processing. Please take a look at specific requirements posted here.
We are thrilled to be collaborating with the Ardo Group and the Esposito Group for a recently awarded DOE-EERE project through the Fuel Cell Technologies Office's H2@Scale Program for "Development of Composite Photocatalyst Materials that are Highly Selective for Solar Hydrogen Production and their Evaluation in Z-Scheme Reactor Designs."
We had great fun yesterday hosting 6-12 year olds organized through the University of Michigan Natural History Museum Summer Camp directed by Brittany Burgess. The outreach activity was a simple hands-on-demonstration to observe brine shrimp response to light and interpretation of these observations to understand how different colors get absorbed differently in water. Thanks to Erika for co-organizing this event with me, and Luisa, Connor, and Bingjia for volunteering to help out the teams.
Rohini and Luisa attended and gave presentations at the 235th Electrochemical Society Conference (ECS) at Dallas this year. Congrats Luisa on your first conference presentation! Luisa also secured a Rackham travel grant from UM to cover the expenses to attend this conference.
We are looking to find a MS or a PhD student that is interested in computational radiative heat transfer modeling with a strong foundation on undergraduate fluid/solid mechanics and heat-transfer for applications of concentrated solar energy storage and thermochemical catalysis.
Please check out the details posted in the advertisement and respond with the necessary documents. Poster Title: "Developing a Microfluidic Flow Cell to Evaluate Materials for Selective Redox Shuttle Catalysis in Solar Water Splitting Devices"
You did a great job, Connor! Congrats! ME 530 (Advanced Heat Transfer) students did a fantastic job presenting their final class projects that included computational heat-transfer analyses for various applications -- laser-based additive manufacturing, optimizing fin design for a transfer case, heat-transfer analyses for welding, packed-bed solar thermal energy storage, and regenerator design for cooling a rocket engine. Great job everyone!
Rohini was invited to give a 5-min lightning talk with a theme on Climate + Energy Sustainability hosted by the School of Energy and Sustainability (SEAS ) and the Energy Institute at the University of Michigan. It was wonderful to hear from various other speakers spanning the disciplines of science, engineering, economics and policy. Thank you for the invite.
